Everyone is gifted with their own skills and talents; it is what makes us all unique. I wanted to look into artists and what their hobbies are and if it is common among artists with the skills they possess.
The link below has a great list explaining some common traits of artists, like being:
Passionate
Adventurous
Single-minded
Disciplined
Passionate
They Don't Give Up
They're own worst critics
"All artists are highly imaginative and see beyond what everyone else does. They Are Single-Minded: Artists often find a hard time choosing something to do. However, once they like something, no one can influence their minds. They are focused and usually forget the world around them until that work is completed." (Ref: https://arthustle.org/en/blog/qualities-all%20-great%20-artists-share#:~:text=All%20artists%20are%20highly%20imaginative,until%20that%20work%20is%20completed.)
My interests revolve around activities that engage my creativity or challenge me. While I tend to get bored quickly, I become deeply immersed in activities such as painting and building with Lego. These hobbies satisfy my imagination. I take pleasure in constructing with Lego, collecting Barbie dolls, solving puzzles, indulging in mysteries through watching and reading, and reminiscing by collecting vintage toys and watching vintage TV programs.
See a few things I've collected over time:
I have a strong attraction to vintage fashion, lifestyle, and eras. More than a decade ago, I ran a store specialising in 1950s/Vintage/Rockabilly items. During that time, I frequently created my own clothing through sewing, which allowed me to express my creativity when I wasn't painting as much. I am also a keen baker/cake decorator and create a specialised cake for each member of our family for their birthdays.
Other hobbies that I found that artists are attracted to via an online search, but these are very much related to art and design:
jigsaws
dancing
photography
digital art
pottery
painting
drawing
creative writing
interior design
games/game design
singing
jewellery design
cross stitching/knitting/sewing
magic
paper journalling/paper crafts
Although I am certainly interested in many of these hobbies, I have only tried some of them, while others remain unexplored. I often take breaks from painting and enjoy engaging in creative activities.
Other hobbies I have found that artists are attracted to are:
video games
sports
gardening
camping
yoga
If you are a creative individual or an artist, do you notice that many of your hobbies and passions align with those mentioned above? I would be interested to hear your thoughts. While everyone is unique and diverse, I am curious to know if there are shared interests among artists and creative minds beyond those listed.
